Conference Attendee Conference Attendee – Support

Apple’s Requirements for Mobile Apps

This article will outline the steps you will need to take to ensure you can have your own custom branded Conference Attendee app on Apple’s App Store (iOS/iPhone/iPad/iPod Touch).

Due to Apple’s guidelines, your business must register its own Apple Developer account. These are universal rules issued directly by Apple that apply to all businesses and developers who wish to operate on the App Store.

Our goal is to make this process as seamless as possible for you and your business. This process only needs to be completed once. Once you have your Apple Developer account ready, the Engineerica team will take over with publishing your app.  We also update the app as needed until you have your event.  The app will stay functional as long as your Conference Tracker account is active.  After your event has passed, your Conference Tracker account will become inactive, and your app will no longer be updated.

How much does the Apple Developer Membership cost?
Currently, Apple charges an annual USD $99 fee for your developer account.

Important: you must be enrolled in the Apple Developer Program as an ‘Organization’, not as an ‘Individual’. This is so you can Invite us to manage the apps on behalf of your organization.  This is not supported with Individual accounts due to Apple policy.

Prerequisites

A business email address

Apple doesn’t accept generic email addresses like Gmail, Yahoo, Outlook, etc. You’ll need your own business domain name email address (e.g something@yourbusiness.com).

A business website

Your organization’s website must be publicly available and the domain name must be associated with your organization.

Your organization must be a legal entity so that it can enter into contracts with Apple. Apple does not accept DBAs, fictitious businesses, trade names, or branches.

Steps

Find or obtain your D-U-N-S® Number

Once you have all of the prerequisites above in place, the next step is to find or obtain what is called a “D-U-N-S® Number” for your company. Your organization must have a D-U-N-S Number so that Apple can verify your organization’s identity and legal entity status. These unique nine-digit numbers are assigned by Dun & Bradstreet and are widely used as standard business identifiers. You can check to see if your organization already has a D-U-N-S Number and request one if necessary. They are free in most jurisdictions. If you request a D-U-N-S Number, it can take up to 5 business days to receive, and a further 2 days for it to be updated with Apple. Apple provides more info on this here.

Here is the link where you can look up or request a D-U-N-S Number.

Create an Apple ID for your Business

It’s recommended to have a dedicated Apple ID for your business, separate from your personal one. This is where your Apple Developer Program will be linked and charged the USD $99 annual fee.

Enroll with the Apple Developer Program

Next up, you’ll need to enroll in the program.

After you’ve submitted your application, Apple will contact you within a few days with verification. Once you receive the confirmation, you’ll need to follow the steps they provide to pay for the enrollment.

Invite us to manage your App account

In the final step, please contact the Conference Tracker support team letting them know you have completed the Apple Developer steps and that you’re now ready to invite us to your account. To invite us to your account, follow the steps in this article.
